There’s a line in the chorus of a Fleetwood Mac song that goes “Thunder only happens when it’s raining…”
Rock stars make terrible meteorologists.
We often hear thunder at our house without the first drop of rain. And lately, a little boom-boom-pow is all it takes to send our greyhound Melissa Moo into a terrible case of the trembles.
This is a relatively new thing for her — it just started this spring. I don’t know if it’s because we’ve had more than our share of thunder this year, or something about it has just spooked her, but she’s a real mess at the first rumble. She hides and shakes and it’s terrible to watch her get so anxious.
We try not to make a big deal of it, because I’ve read that if you act like there is something to be afraid of you are confirming to the dog that there is indeed something bad happening. So we stay calm and talk to her in a normal voice when all I really want to do is cuddle her.
With the Fourth of July just around the corner, I am ordering her a Thundershirt. I have read that these garments do wonders to calm a frightened dog.
Any of you tried this product on your pooch? What was the result?
