Zorba is moving to Salem
Adel Eltawansy, the owner of the Zorba Greek and Mediterranean food stall in the Roanoke City Market building, was telling customers today that he intends to move to Salem after the market building closes Saturday.
Zorba is often the busiest of the vendors in the market building, and customers have been asking Eltawansy for months what his plans were.
He said he intends to re-open in a building on Salem Lynchburg Turnpike near Virginia 419 on Sept. 15.
The cover story of the current issue of The Blue Ridge Business Journal deals with the Roanoke City Market building.

That would be excellent news! Loved Zorba’s. Finally it looks like I’ll have some decent, and not just fast food lunch places, to go to when I’m at the shop in Salem. Very happy Joe’s Deli reopened, and the soon to be opened Cuban restaurant looks interesting too.
There is no Salem Turnpike in Salem. Is it possible someone misunderstood where he is relocating?
Good catch, Geoff — thanks. What we meant was Lynchburg Turnpike in Salem.
I don’t know the restaurant or the owner, but I can tell you the location he has identified is not a good location for a restaurant. I want good and different foods in Salem, but it will not do well at that intersection. I hope he finds another location.
Great news! I’ve loved Zorba’s for years. I picked up my favorite vegetarian plate just last Saturday. However, as anyone who’s lived in the Roanoke Valley for years knows, we will find the new Zorba’s by knowing what it was before.
I have often asked him to come up here to Christiansburg. Or at least open another store in the New River Valley. Well atleast when I go see my grandma now, I can get some Zorbas on ym way!)
