Virginia Western Community College to launch paper-saving printing system

Virginia Western Community College is launching a new campus printing system, called Wireless Everywhere Print Anywhere, designed to help the college save paper and money.

The system, which is expected to go live Friday, uses cloud technology to allow students, faculty and staff to upload documents from smartphones, home computers and laptops and print them at one of 13 kiosks on campus.

Documents are stored in the system and released when users sign in at a kiosk, reducing wasted paper from unwanted prints.

Pages will cost 10 cents for black and white and 50 cents for color. The college estimates it will save at least $26,000 in paper and toner costs per year.

I wonder if the college is going to announce the change to the campus via flyers and memo’s? We had something similar happen at work, the environmental dept. was going to change all of the network printers to 2-sided printing as the default to save paper, a few days later they sent out printed copies of their dept. newsletter (full color on glossy paper) then sent out an email with a PDF link to said newsletter.
