DePaul Community Resources to continue Women of Achievement Awards
DePaul Community Resources has announced it will continue the Women of Achievement Awards, begun in 2003 by the YWCA of Roanoke Valley, after the YWCA announced earlier this year that it will merge with DePaul Community Resources. DePaul Community Resources has added two new categories, foster parenting and social services, to the awards. Nominations for the 2011 awards are due Sept. 23 and the awards luncheon will be held Nov. 1. Here’s the full news release from DePaul Community Resources:
DePaul Community Resources announces the 2011 Women of Achievement Awards, continuing a proud tradition begun by the YWCA of Roanoke Valley in 2003 to recognize women of the Roanoke Valley who have made significant contributions to the community through career, leadership and volunteer activities. Earlier this year, the YWCA announced it would be dissolving but their mission would continue through a decision to merge with DePaul Community Resources.
“We are extremely privileged and excited to honor the legacy and the mission of the YWCA by continuing the Women of Achievement Awards,” says Sue Bentley, Executive Director of DePaul Community Resources. “There are many women in the Roanoke Valley who deserve to be recognized for their achievements and DePaul is thrilled to be able to bestow that recognition. In this way, the YWCA spirit will live on year after year as DePaul continues to honor the women of the Roanoke Valley.”
DePaul Community Resources, adding two new categories to the awards, will honor women from the Roanoke Valley for their achievements in twelve categories:
Arts
Business
Education
Equality
Foster Parenting (new this year)
Government/Politics
Health/Science
Human Relations
Law
Religion
Social Services (new this year)
Volunteerism
“The new categories of Foster Parenting and Social Services directly relate to DePaul services and represent our mission well,” explains Bentley. “DePaul is excited to be able to continue the spirit of the YWCA while making the Women of Achievement Awards our own.”
Nomination forms can be downloaded and must be completed and returned by Friday, September 23.
