Pulaski Fresh seeks southwest Virginia small farmers for festivals

Pulaski Fresh Farm-to-Table is looking for small farmers to showcase in their second annual Blossom & Grow Fest April 28. This event promotes fresh local food in southwest Virginia. For more information, visit www.pulaskifresh.com.

Here is the press release from the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.

Are you a grower or producer of foods looking for new customers? Are you a consumer with a taste for fresh, locally grown foods? This spring, Pulaski Fresh Farm-to-Table will hold its second annual Blossom & Grow Fest to showcase small farmers and promote fresh local food throughout Southwest Virginia

The Blossom & Grow Fest will take place Saturday, April 28th, and features a variety of activities. According to Cynthia Hancock, Pulaski Fresh Board member and farmer, “We’ll have ‘Meet Your Grower/Producer Storybooths’, and this year’s events also include a 5K and half-marathon ‘Run for Good Food,’ live music, kids’ activities, and a baking contest. Locally made pastries and breads, plus lunch specials and ice cream will be available.”
“There is no charge for a ‘Meet Your Grower/Producer Storybooth’ at this event,” said Hancock, “so this will be a great way for small farmers to tell their story, gain free exposure and connect with potential customers from throughout Southwest Virginia.”

Pulaski Fresh, an initiative of Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce since 2010, is a regional, all-volunteer, service organization working to bring farmers together with consumers in Southwest VA. “We got the idea for this event because fitness and healthy eating are a good combination,” said Suzie Richert, one of the event organizers, “and after a run, who isn’t hungry for some good local food?”

The event will take place at the recently renovated Draper Mercantile and the adjacent New River Trail. There is an entry fee for runners, but all other events, including the baking contest, are free. Event organizers anticipate that Blossom & Grow Fest will attract runners and their families from the surrounding region.

If you are interested in setting up a grower/producer ”storybooth” or have questions, contact Suzie Richert at pulaskifreshfarmtotable@yahoo.com or (276) 389-9306 to reserve your spot before they’re all gone.
