Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group helps raise $115,000 at MS Bowl-A-Thon

The bowling team from Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group raised $115,000 for the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society during the PMI/Stop-In Terry M. Phelps Bowl-A-Thon. Joe Cundiff, Scott Greenway, Joel Balsley, Rachel Lotts and Melvin Scales participated in the event that took place in March.

Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group’s bowling team threw some strikes at multiple sclerosis during the tenth annual PMI/Stop-In Terry M. Phelps Bowl-A-Thon in March. This year’s event raised $115,000 for the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National MS Society. Atlantic Bay’s participants included Joe Cundiff, Scott Greenway, Joel Balsley, Rachel Lotts and Melvin Scales.  Lotts assisted with taking calls for the radio-thon part of the event at 94.9 Star Country, where callers pledged $100 for a chance to win a trip to the CMA Festival in Nashville. The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for Leadership Roanoke Valley. Nominations will be accepted from members of the chamber until May 1 . The LRV is a program that teaches business networking, preparing for regional challenges, building leadership skills and more.

Automotive chain Advance Auto Parts is hosting the 2012 Chick-fil-A Leadercast on May 4. Virginia Western Community College students, Advance Auto employees, community partners and business leaders will join together at the AAP Store Support Center in Roanoke for the leadership broadcast live from Atlanta, Ga. The broadcast is a chance for participants to learn and network.

Five FedEx drivers earn honors at the Virginia Truck Driving Championship

FedEx took several awards at the Virginia Truck Driving Championship held in Lexington April 20-21. Five FedEx drivers earned recognition for commitment to safety and professionalism. Truck driver Frank Woods of Christianburg placed second in the Step Van category.

City Market Building wins awards from American Public Works Association

Roanoke’s City Market Building has been recognized by the American Public Works Association. The building’s $7.9 million renovation earned regional and national awards for projects in the $5-$25 million category. Awards will be given in May.

Carilion Clinic hospitals earn national quality respiratory care recognition

All hospitals in the Carilion system have been awarded Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care. Carilion hospitals earned this recognition by meeting national standards and guidelines for respiratory care. Only 15 percent of hospitals in the nation were given this recognition.

ROANOKE, Va. (April 20, 2012) – Carilion Clinic is proud to announce that all hospitals within the Carilion system have earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR). About 700 hospitals, or approximately 15 percent of hospitals in the nation, have received this award.

The QRCR program was started in 2003 by the American Association for Respiratory Care and is aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals.
