Clean Commute Challenge serves up free breakfast May 18

The month-long Clean Commute Challenge is half way through. To celebrate, RIDE Solutions and 16 West Marketplace are hosting  this year’s Clean Commute Breakfast on May 18. This free breakfast is open to anyone who had taken the Clean Commute Pledge. The Clean Commute Challenge encourages people to use  sustainable modes of  transportation.

Here is the press release from RIDE Solutions.

Roanoke, VA. -  RIDE Solutions, the region’s popular sustainable transportation service, is partnering with 16 West Marketplace in Downtown Roanoke to host this year’s Clean Commute Breakfast, part of the month-long Clean Commute Challenge that encourages commuters to try sustainable transportation modes such as cycling, carpooling, taking transit, and telework.
The Clean Commute Breakfast will be held from 7:00am to 9:00am at 16 West Marketplace, 16 Church Ave.  Everyone who had taken the Clean Commute Pledge can come by for free breakfast and gifts, including Red Rooter Coffee, smoothes and breakfast burritos from Café 16, blender bottles from CORE Chriopractic, and travel coffee mugs from RIDE Solutions.

In addition, cyclists will have free access to the showers at RAC Express, so first time bike commuters can clean up before hitting the office.

To date, the Clean Commute Challenge has logged nearly 27,000 clean miles pledged throughout the month of May, the highest mileage total that RIDE Solutions has logged.  Commuters who want to participate can still take the pledge online at www.ridesolutions.org/cleancommute, or can come to the Clean Commute Breakfast to complete a pledge form.

The Clean Commute Challenge is part of Bike Month in Roanoke.  The Bike Month mission is to bring attention to both the opportunities and challenges of bicycling as recreation and transportation in the Roanoke Valley by creating events that involve all interest, skill, and age level of cyclists.   More information can be found at www.bikeroanoke.org.

RIDE Solutions is a service of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission.
