Here is the press release from NetVenturesCorporation.
ROANOKE, VA – June 5, 2012 –To incent employees to develop good exercise habits, while also having a little fun, two Roanoke-based software companies, NetVenturesCorporation (NVC) and Interactive Achievement (IA), have challenged each other to a fitness competition.
The objective is simple: Get employees motivated to exercise. The rules are straightforward: Over a three-month duration, employees exercise when they want and how they want. Then they log each exercise and earn points based on thelength and intensity of the workout. At the end of the contest, individual awards are given to the 3 individuals who amass the most exercise points and the leading company will be the proud owner of the NVC/IA Fitness Cup.
The concept for the tournament came about during a lunch meeting between Jonathan Hagmaier, President and CEO for IA and Kevin Bloomfield, President and CEO for NVC. The two get together often to strategize and discuss the benefits and challenges of running niche software companies in the Roanoke Valley.
“Jon and I have always enjoy a healthy bit of competition between our companies,” said Kevin Bloomfield. “We thought this contest would be a great way to extend that competition to our employees, while also encouraging them to get more exercise.
Jonathan Hagmaier added, “I am amazed at how the competition has really pushed the employees of both companies to not only exercise, but to exercise consistently over a long period of time.”
Currentlythe competition is neck and neck, as each company has taken its turn in thelead. The contest runs until mid-July when the reigning champion will be announced at a closing celebration at the IA Headquarters. The individual incentives will also be awarded at this time and include a range of prizes from overnight stays at the Homestead, The Hotel Roanoke and gift certificates to the Blue Apron and First & Sixth restaurants.
