Roanoke, VA (September 13, 2012) — Virginia Utility Protection Service (VUPS), the statewide one-call notification center located in Roanoke, announced today that it has achieved ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards for products and services. ISO 9001:2008 Certification sets the criteria for a quality management system based on a number of principles including a strong customer focus and continual improvement.
“ISO certification is among our biggest achievements as an organization,” says Rick Pevarski, CEO. “The certification provides a structured framework of processes for the entire organization which allows for consistency that benefits our employees and customers. With these standards in place, the entire organization will continue to improve over the long term.”
This certification is indicative of VUPS’ commitment to quality management, continuous improvement and providing premier customer service. VUPS is the only one-call notification center to achieve the quality management certification on its entire business system. With the assistance of a consultant, Sue Snyder with D’Ardenne Associates, VUPS built upon its current processes to ensure the company met the requirements of the ISO Standard. With every department within the organization involved, VUPS completed the groundwork in just 12 short months, subsequently bringing in an external auditor to complete the two-stage audit necessary for certification. The successful ISO certification was completed and approved through BSI America™ with zero negative findings.
