IRS tax workshops for small and medium-sized nonprofits will be offered in southwest Virginia through Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech. Workshops will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Roanoke Higher Education Center on Nov. 13 and Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center on Nov. 14. Each workshop will be $50. BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 24, 2012 – Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will offer five IRS Tax Workshops for Small- and Medium-Sized Nonprofit Organizations at various sites around the commonwealth from November through January.

The workshop will be led by experienced IRS exempt-organization specialists, and is designed to offers the nuts and bolts of tax compliance for small- and medium-sized 501(c)(3) organizations. Topics covered will include tax-exempt status, unrelated business income, employment issues, Form 990 series, and required disclosures. A continental breakfast will be provided.

The cost is $50 per person. Online registration will remain open up to one week prior to the event, or until all spaces are filled. Participants may be eligible for Continuing and Professional Education credits from the Virginia Board of Accountancy, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits from the Virginia State Bar, and Continuing Education Units (CEU) from the IRS.

The workshops will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the following dates and locations:

*   Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Roanoke Higher Education Center in Roanoke, Va.;
*   Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Va.;
*   Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Virginia Tech Research Center–Arlington in Arlington, Va.;
*   Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Renaissance Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Va.; and
*   Friday, Jan. 11, at the Embassy Suites in Richmond, Va.
