Blacksburg Eye Associates is donating funds to help Optometry Giving Sight, an organization that provides eye exams and glasses to developing communities world-wide. For every frame the optometrist sells, $3 will be donated to the organization through the office’s fundraising program, Seeing Eye to Eye.
Here is the press release from Blacksburg Eye Associates.
John M Dovie, OD, FAAO, from Blacksburg Eye Associates is responding to a call to optometrists to raise funds to help eliminate one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide – uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and glasses.
John M Dovie, OD, FAAO, from Blacksburg Eye Associates has recently announced he will donate $3 to Optometry Giving Sight for every frame sold in their office through a fundraising program called SEEING EYE TO EYE.
“The injustice of being blind in our world today, simply due to a lack of glasses, is unacceptable,” said Dr. Dovie. “This is our opportunity to make a difference and to help give sight – and hope – to millions in need. Knowing that just $5 can provide an eye exam and a pair of glasses in countries where little or no eye care exists made me realize that our donations and donations from our patients can really make a big difference in people’s lives.”
According to Clive Miller, CEO of Optometry Giving Sight – US, there are over 600 million people around the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they don’t have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses.
Mr. Miller said, “Through the generous support of optometrists like Dr. John Dovie who donate to programs like SEEING EYE TO EYE, we are able to transform lives in many developing communities. Optometry Giving Sight is currently funding programs that focus on the delivery of vision care, training of local eye care professionals and the development of infrastructure such as vision centers to deliver sustainable, affordable eye care services. Funds are currently directed to communities in Sri Lanka, South and East Africa, Latin America, South East Asia and Indigenous Australia.
“We are proud of our contribution towards the elimination of global blindness. In our country we often take access to quality eye care for granted, but it is just not the case in many other places”, commented Dr. Dovie.
