Damage restoration company supports local Red Cross chapters

Damage restoration company, Paul Davis Restoration of Roanoke and Lynchburg supports local American Red Cross chapters with donations. Paul Davis donates  personal hygiene items, clothes, time and funds to aid in the disaster relief efforts made by the Red Cross.

Roanoke VA – March was proclaimed as Red Cross Month by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1943. The Red Cross provides 24-hour support and responds to nearly 70,000 disasters a year providing shelter, food, emotional support and other necessities to those in need around the world. The Red Cross also collects and distributes approximately 40 percent of the U.S. blood supply and trains more than seven million people in first aid, water safety and other life-saving skills.

Cox’s contribution to fund tuition for students to attend the jazz program

CoxCox Communications has contributed $1,000 to the Don Pullen Scholarship fund which provides student scholarships for the Jefferson Center’s Jazz Institute. The donation was presented to the Jefferson Center before the Campbell Brothers concert last Friday. Donated funds will pay for five students to attend the program.

AAF Roanoke ADDY Awards celebrate local creative talent

ADDY Awards were presented by the American Advertising Federation Roanoke on Saturday in downtown Roanoke. The awards recognize advertising talent in Roanoke and the New River Valley. Greg Brock of Firefli Media was given the Advertising Person of the Year Award. Vendor of the Year was awarded to InnerWorkings. Virginia Tech grant to expand graduate training in construction occupational safety, health

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech has received a gran from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. A $470,703 grant will be used by principle faculty members  Maury Nussbaum and Deborah Young-Corbett to  expand education that will address construction-related occupational safety and health.

BLACKSBURG, Va., Feb. 15, 2013 – Virginia Tech’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has received a five-year $470,703 grant from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to expand its graduate education to address construction-related occupational safety and health.

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Center for Innovation in Construction Safety and Health, now a part of the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science, have engaged in occupational safety and health research and education for the past 35 years, and have been supported by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to provide graduate training in safety and ergonomics since 1992. Lake Team Realty recieved a Distinguished Service Award from the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors. This is the sixth time in seven years that the team has been given this recognition.

Roanoke IAAP meeting registration deadline is today

The Roanoke Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals will hold its monthly meeting Feb. 26. Freedom First rebranding effort includes blue envelope campaign

Freedom First Credit Union has launched a new rebranding effort to demonstrate the company’s commitment to communities. The “Where People Bank for Good” initiative includes a new logo and message showing that the bank is investing resources into programs and projects that benefit the community. As part of the new campaign, almost 2,000 envelopes containing various amounts of cash are being randomly sent to area business and street corners to show what the bank does on a small-scale every day.

Facial plastic surgery practice opens in Roanoke

Facial plastic surgery practice Lifestyle Lift has opened an office in southwest Roanoke. Dr. Norman Harris partnered with the company to open a certified office Feb. 12.
Harris is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
The practice  performs only facial and neck plastic surgery procedures. Insurance does not cover this type of elective surgery. However, the office does offer payment plans and accepts major credit cards.
Lifestyle Lift was founded in 2001. According to the web site, the company employs 89 facial rejuvenation specialists in 48 centers in the U.S. It is unclear how many employees will staff the Roanoke office.
