BLACKSBURG, Va., Feb. 18, 2013 – The Diversity Conference organized by the Pamplin Multicultural Diversity Council on Saturday, Feb. 23, will feature workshops on workplace diversity led by representatives from The Hershey Company, Target, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and KPMG, and a keynote address by Pamplin College of Business alumnus Jerome Fowlkes.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Inn at Virginia Tech.

Registration is required for the conference, but any Virginia Tech student may attend the conference at no cost.

“This is in part due to the generous contributions of our six corporate sponsors, all of whom will conduct workshops throughout the day,” said Yalana Orr, Pamplin’s undergraduate academic advisor and recruiter.

“The conference offers students a great opportunity to learn about diversity in the workplace, develop multicultural competency skills, network and possibly land an internship or full-time position, build their resumés, and generally increase their awareness of a multi-ethnic work environment,” said Orr.

The corporate workshops are expected to identify workforce issues and highlight effective multicultural leadership skills and corporate programs.

Keynote speaker Fowlkes received a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1988. He is the managing member and franchisee for Cut & Style of Broadlands, a Great Clips franchise in Ashburn, Va., and serves as associate director in the Office of Regulatory Policy at the Farm Credit Administration.

He is a member of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association board of directors and the Pamplin Advisory Council and is a former member of the Virginia Tech Multicultural Alumni board of directors. He received an MBA in 2001 from the College of William and Mary.
