ROANOKE, Va. (Aug. 27, 2013) – Smith/Packett, developers of South Peak, today broke ground on a new 80,000-square-foot Hilton Garden Inn in Roanoke County. The $15 million hotel is part of a growing community that includes condominium residences, residential home sites and future retail and office space.
Construction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014. When fully operational, the hotel will employee 40 people and include 2,000 square feet of conference space, a full-service restaurant and lounge.
“The addition of the Hilton Garden Inn – a major brand – is the next chapter in the vision for South Peak,” said Hunter Smith, president of Smith/Packett. “We’ve been encouraged by the community’s support for this hotel and the surrounding developments and look forward to further developing Roanoke County’s newest place to live, work and play.”
The Hilton Garden Inn will be located below The Peaks residences, giving guests a beautiful view of the mountains and downtown Roanoke.
“Hilton Garden Inn is a sought-after brand for travelers looking for affordable but upscale accommodations,” said John Koshivos, vice president of development for Hilton Garden Inn. “We’re delighted to be a part of the Roanoke Valley community.”
Amenities at the new hotel will include a fitness center, heated indoor pool with whirlpool, family suites and a 24-hour business center. Guest rooms and suites will be available in a variety of floor plans and will include microwaves and refrigerators, along with the Hilton Garden Inn brand’s signature Garden Sleep System®, high-definition television, spacious work desk and ergonomic chair and a living room area.
“Smith/Packett is based in Roanoke and while we work all over the United States, it’s important to us that we also support local businesses as we grow and expand,” said Jim Smith, CEO and founder of Smith/Packett. “Our partners on this project include companies from as far away as Florida as well as many in our own backyard.”
The general contractor for the project, Integrated Construction, is based in Jacksonville, Fla.; the site contractor, BLJ Associates, is located in southwest Virginia. Architecture firms Trotter and Associates (Gatlinburg, Tenn.) and Jones and Jones Architects (Roanoke) designed the structure. Carter Bank &Trust is financing the project and Concord Hospitality will manage the hotel.
“Roanoke County is grateful to have such committed neighbors like Smith/Packett and South Peak in our community,” said Michael Altizer, chairman of Roanoke County’s board of supervisors. “We look forward to the grand opening of this Hilton Garden Inn and we congratulate Smith/Packett on their continued success.”
