Roanoke Dollar General to hold career fair Saturday

The Dollar General store at 2312 Orange Ave. will hold a career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is part of the company’s effort to hire 10,000 new employees. Company representatives will be on site to discuss opportunities and receive resumes from job seekers.

Speakers sought for second-annual TEDxVirginiaTech event

Edward Boes, a Virginia Tech alumnus who earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering, spoke at the inaugural TEDxVirginiaTech event in November 2012.

The deadline for TEDxVirginiaTech submissions is May 30. University faculty, staff, students, alumni and New River Valley community members are invited to apply for the talk that will take place Nov. 9. Submissions will be accepted through the TEDxVirginiaTech website at www.tedxvirginiatech.com.

Golab, Kids Tech University to host family science program April 27

Mobile laboratory Golab is making a stop at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Kids Tech University invites families to participate in a day of  free, hands-on science experiments. The lab will be located at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute on Virginia Tech’s campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students will present their research posters at the 10th annual Undergraduate Research Conference on April 19, 2012.

A group of Virginia Tech students will present their research topics in life sciences, engineering, math and more at the 11th annual Undergraduate Research Conference in Blacksburg on Friday. The Inn at Virginia Tech will be hosting the conference from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nearly 100 students will give presentations, covering such topics as the effect of corn gluten in lambs, bullying prevention in middle schools, and female fashion decisions. VT KnowledgeWorks Presidents’ Councils accepting new members

VT KnowledgeWorks Presidents’ Councils are  offered at The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg and and the Virginia Tech Roanoke Center. Presidents’ Councils are private networks of executives who provide peer mentoring. Applications are now being accepted for these groups. Discussion, tour of new Center in the Square April 18

Virginia’s Blue Ridge Hospitality Association Network is hosting a discussion and guided tour of Center in the Square’s newly renovated facility on April 18. Blacksburg start-up selected to present at TechBUZZ April 23

Blacksburg start-up company KinectHealth has been selected as one of 16 start-ups to present at the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association TechBUZZ Spring 2013 meeting on April 23 in Bethesda, Md. KinectHealth is a mobile fitness studio app that provides access to fitness with peer groups.

VT Transportation Institute to host school day, open house April 11

A school day and open hous has been planned for the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute on April 11. School day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the open house will be from 4 to 7 p.m.
