Tuck Chiropractic Clinic wins awards at Fork and Cork Festival

Tuck Chiropractic Clinic earned several awards by participating in The Can Do! food drive held during the Fork and Cork Festival in Blacksburg April 27. The clinic collected 1,107 cans of food and constructed an Etch-A-Sketch for the competition. Awards won by the staff include  Most Cans Collected, Most Nutritious, People’s Champion and Jury’s Champion.

BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA (May 8, 2013) – Doctors and Staff Members from Tuck Chiropractic Clinic participated in The Can Do! on Saturday, April 27, 2013.  Tuck Chiropractic Clinic staff members collected 1107 cans of food and built an Etch A Sketch featuring the Can Do! slogan.  The Tuck Chiropractic Team won the awards for Most Cans Collected, Most Nutritious, People’s Champion, and Jury’s Champion.

“We are very grateful to all of our patients and the grocery stores across the New River Valley who generously donated food to our cause.  We are very thankful for these food donations that went directly to Feeding America, Micah’s Backpack, and Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program after the building competition,” stated Dr. Matthew Marry of Tuck Chiropractic Spinal Sports Injury Clinic in Christiansburg and the Team Captain for the competition. Children’s osteopathic practice opens in Salem

An osteopathic practice for children opened late last year on Poplar Avenue in Salem.

Osteopathic Treatment for Children was opened in December by Dr. Karen Steele. She shares the office with her daughter Dr. Sarah Steele-Killeen.

The practice provides osteopathic manipulative medical treatment for problems ranging from colic to reflux disorder to scoliosis. Treatments received at the practice are to be adjunctive to a child’s regular medical care, according to Steele.

While the practice does not participate in any insurance plans, it does accept patents without a referral.

Steele has been in the medical field since the 1970s. She was a family practitioner before moving on to an osteopathic manipulative medicine residency. She is a former professor and associate dean of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Roanoke Resource to hold grand opening Tuesday

Roanoke Resource is hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its new office on Tuesday. The office is located in a historic home on Day Avenue in downtown Roanoke.

Owners Celia McCauley-Wittl and Courtni Sandras opened the office Feb. 15. McCauley-Wittl and Sandras have been in practice collectively  for 12 years.

Roanoke Resource provides support to  people who live with chronic mental illness  while  decreasing homelessness and increasing client  community involvement.

“Our mission is to bring positive changes in their lives,” said McCauley-Wittl.

Light refreshments and office tours will take place as part of the ceremony.

University Physical Therapy has opened a second location on Apperson Drive in Salem.

Owner of  the Salem and Roanoke University Physical Therapy locations and physical therapist Tyler Bowersock held a grand opening for the second office  Wednesday.

Bowersock has been in practice for almost 7 years. He was employed by Carilion Clinic before opening his own practice in Roanoke.

Local physicians supported and urged the opening of a second location, Bowersock said in an email.

Director Amy Foutz and office manager Stephanie Hodges will be joining Bowersock in the Salem office.

University Physical Therapy will begin seeing patients today.

Real estate developer Smith Enterprises announced that Vistar Eye Care Center has leased a space at Wythe Medical Arts in Wytheville. The new location will offer vision treatments and surgery.

JCHS to host info sessions for respiratory therapist program

JCHS to hold info sessions for physician assistant program

Jefferson College of Health Sciences will host information sessions in the spring and summer about its Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant. Sessions will take place April 19, June 7 and July 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. Preregistration is required by emailing  retaylor@jchs.edu, and must include your name, email address and the session you will attend. More information about the program can be found here.

Green dental office is built in Roanoke

The new building that houses the  office of Drs. Randolph Dickey, John Singleton and Sean Lynch is the first green dental office built with Passivhaus technology, according to a press release from Structures Design Build.

A ribbon cutting will be held Wednesday at the new location on Franklin Road in Roanoke. According to Dr. F. Randolph Dickey, the dentists have been operating in the new building since Jan. 21.

Structures constructed the office that uses triple pane windows, heating and cooling energy recovery systems, and a fresh air ventilation system to reduce the amount of energy used to operate the building.

The press release  said Passivhaus technology reduces a building’s energy usage by 70 percent.

Blacksburg Eye Associates donates to global eye exam organization

Blacksburg Eye Associates is donating funds to help Optometry Giving Sight, an organization that provides eye exams and glasses to developing communities world-wide. For every frame the optometrist sells, $3 will be donated to the organization through the office’s fundraising program, Seeing Eye to Eye.
