House of Strength gym relocates in Roanoke

House-of-Strength-Logo-PNG-300x174A new gym has opened on Shenandoah Avenue in Roanoke. House of Strength opened its doors on April 15. Former athlete and owner Ryan Munsey opened the gym and trains clients of all ages and abilities.

House of Strength was originally located in the Iron Sports location near Breckinridge Middle School in Roanoke.

Munsey is a 2002 Lord Botetourt High School graduate who earned a degree in dietetics in food science and human nutrition from Clemson University.

An open house for the gym will be held May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Open house activities will  include the  Strongman Saturday workout, mini-challenges, tours and consultations.

Children’s osteopathic practice opens in Salem

An osteopathic practice for children opened late last year on Poplar Avenue in Salem.

Osteopathic Treatment for Children was opened in December by Dr. Karen Steele. She shares the office with her daughter Dr. Sarah Steele-Killeen.

The practice provides osteopathic manipulative medical treatment for problems ranging from colic to reflux disorder to scoliosis. Treatments received at the practice are to be adjunctive to a child’s regular medical care, according to Steele.

While the practice does not participate in any insurance plans, it does accept patents without a referral.

Steele has been in the medical field since the 1970s. She was a family practitioner before moving on to an osteopathic manipulative medicine residency. She is a former professor and associate dean of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Hall’s Garage Doors set to open second showroom in Salem

Hall’s Garage Doors has planed to open a second showroom in Salem. A grand opening is planned for the Wildwood Road location April 18-20. Hall’s has been operating in its Christiansburg location since 2001.

Roanoke Resource to hold grand opening Tuesday

Roanoke Resource is hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its new office on Tuesday. The office is located in a historic home on Day Avenue in downtown Roanoke.

Owners Celia McCauley-Wittl and Courtni Sandras opened the office Feb. 15. McCauley-Wittl and Sandras have been in practice collectively  for 12 years.

Roanoke Resource provides support to  people who live with chronic mental illness  while  decreasing homelessness and increasing client  community involvement.

“Our mission is to bring positive changes in their lives,” said McCauley-Wittl.

Light refreshments and office tours will take place as part of the ceremony.

University Physical Therapy has opened a second location on Apperson Drive in Salem.

Owner of  the Salem and Roanoke University Physical Therapy locations and physical therapist Tyler Bowersock held a grand opening for the second office  Wednesday.

Bowersock has been in practice for almost 7 years. He was employed by Carilion Clinic before opening his own practice in Roanoke.

Local physicians supported and urged the opening of a second location, Bowersock said in an email.

Director Amy Foutz and office manager Stephanie Hodges will be joining Bowersock in the Salem office.

University Physical Therapy will begin seeing patients today.

Roanoke Express Employment opens specialized recruiting group

Express Employment Professionals has opened a Specialized Recruiting Group  in Roanoke. Garry Norris, owner of area Express Employment  offices, opened the new location. The Specialized Recruiting Group aids in finding employment for professionals in engineering, accounting and finance, and IT.

A new Bay Diesel & Generator location has opened up in Roanoke. The power generator and diesel engine specialist has hired Will Vagts as the territory manager for the new location.

Facial plastic surgery practice opens in Roanoke

Facial plastic surgery practice Lifestyle Lift has opened an office in southwest Roanoke. Dr. Norman Harris partnered with the company to open a certified office Feb. 12.
Harris is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
The practice  performs only facial and neck plastic surgery procedures. Insurance does not cover this type of elective surgery. However, the office does offer payment plans and accepts major credit cards.
Lifestyle Lift was founded in 2001. According to the web site, the company employs 89 facial rejuvenation specialists in 48 centers in the U.S. It is unclear how many employees will staff the Roanoke office.
