Not just because of his varied topics but most of all for his participation and attention to the blog. His devotion goes well above that of ANY of the paid moderators and that is clear as day why his is so popular. The name-calling and insults are not the draw that many believe. In fact, many people have told me that they would post on one of the blogs if they did not receive such hateful attacks for it. Anonymity is not your friend, it is the haters friend though.

I made a simple statement of fact-Dan is doing his job, Dan is getting paid, we are the customers. What is wrong with that? I believe there needs to be more civility on these blogs, actual discussion of issues. I do not believe it will ever happen, you are proof of that. If so he is getting paid to do it. The newspaper is making money from advertising on the site, so the more people who read the blog the more they can charge for advertising.
