In the market for a new home? Don’t miss the Open House guide in the paper Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, we have an app for that. Editor Carole Tarrant talks about our new digital offerings.

In a column today, Editor Carole Tarrant lays out the growing number of options for reading the digital version of The Roanoke Times. Do you like roanoke.com’s updated feel, or the electronic replica of the printed page?

She also directs readers to our FAQ on digital subscriptions. It’s where you register to get the iPad app, available free to subscribers. Watch a how-to video to get started with our iPad app here.

We’re eager to hear what you think!

Droid fans don’t need to download an app. You’ll get an app-like experience by going to http://www.roanoketimes.com on your phone’s browser and logging in.

I think limited this to iPad only is a bad idea.

Back when I subscribed I tried to access this but my password never worked. Repeated emails to the Times went unanswered. Hope you’ve gotten the bugs worked out.

    And what about android’s??

Droid fans, you don’t need to download an app. You’ll get an app-like experience (but without the update hassles) by going to http://www.roanoketimes.com on your phone’s browser and logging in. (It’s a new HTML5 version that responds to your device’s browser.)

Then, make a bookmark of that version on your phone’s home screen. You can launch that just like an app. (Trust me, I’m a Droid fan myself.)

GalaxyBoy, we apologize for your previous troubles and hope you’ll give us another shot. Please email digitalaccess@roanoke.com and we’ll investigate what’s up.

    Thanks, all, for your feedback!

Ever since subscribing to digital this has been a JOKE…….on various days, different parts of the paper will NOT OPEN…..am using an IPad and did not have this problem for last several years; then I received a phone call app 3 weeks ago and wanted to know if I wanted to keep digital format…currently receive hard copy, Sunday only…..if someone can’t correct this problem soon, I am going to DE-SUBSCRIBE the entire paper–not worth all this trouble! If not for Sunday coupons would have stopped long time ago!
DOES ANYONE ever read these comments?

I see only one advantage to waiting and watching wheels sping and pages opening or not opening. I don’t have to go out on a rainy day to retrieve a soggy paper.

FLASH, you got to be kidding me! How retro 2000 of you. You might want to read a current news article about FLASH sometime. Mobile FLASH is no longer in development by Adobe and hasn’t been since 2011.

I am an “out of stater,” and a future resident of ROA, at which time I will def be a subscriber. In the meantime, I would enjoy the option for an “online-only” subscription. I would be willing to pay a moderate amount for that.

I know it’s a volatile world – hang in there!

Rob, we now have a digital-only subscription available. Please email digitalaccess@roanoke.com or call (540) 981-3211 and they’ll set you up. Appreciate the encouraging words during these times of change!

Is there no requirement to Logout? Couldn’t find one.

    Edward,

The HTML5 version of the paper should work on your mobile device, including Apple products. As a subscriber you can access it through your browser at roanoketimes.com. We are working to move beyond Flash as quickly as we can.

I like to read the digital version of the mornings before I go to work; as the paper arrives about the time that I leave for work.
However, all too frequently, the digital version has not updated to the current days version, and still shows yesterdays version.
This morning is a fine example. It is 5:29 a.m. on Sunday morning and when I log in, Saturday’s paper is still showing.
When it works, the digital version is great. If not for the coupons and sale circulars, and the many times the current day version not online, I would go digital only.

Mark, we aim to get each day’s paper posted to the e-Times by 6 a.m. But it’s a new product so we appreciate hearing there’s a need before then. If you have any other issues with it loading please let us know at digitalaccess@Roanoke.com. Thanks for the feedback.
