Want to be the ‘face’ of The Burgs? We’re hiring a Blacksburg community journalist

The Roanoke Times is seeking a community journalist to cover all facets of living in Blacksburg for The Burgs, our website and print publication based in the New River Valley. This person loves community-based reporting and would be eager to capture life in its smallest increments, from school proms to high school tournaments to mainstreet festivals and municipal goings-on.

BurgsPrint300Blacksburg is home to Virginia Tech and nationally ranked as a livable, wired community in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This community journalist would need to tap into the town’s pulse, producing engaging work that resonates with readers online, in print and through social networks.

Strong candidates are equally adept at telling stories with words and images. They also recognize the value of community members contributing to the publication, and would be charged with soliciting this content.  The community journalist serves as a key public contact for The Burgs — the recognizable “face” in the community – and would support this role by regularly circulating at local events and conducting “office hours” at various locations in Blacksburg.
