We have our round one winner for the Red Sox Ultimate Fan contest:

By popular vote, Sandra Pratt of Vinton won a suite night at a Salem Red Sox game with her and 14 friends. She’s also entered into the final round, where the winner will get a trip to Fenway.

Enter round two of our contest by uploading your fan photos starting tomorrow (May 7) through May 23 at roanoke.com/contests. Voting begins May 24.

BTW, look for our Paparazzi cameras at Thursday’s game (May 9). The night’s theme is 1970s, so get your groove on!

We’re excited to reveal our ‘Best Of’ reader poll winners …

BestOfPromoFrom Dwayne Yancey, senior editor for new channels:

Who’s got the best burgers in Salem?

Who’s the best rec league coach in Botetourt County?

What’s the most fun thing that’s happened in southwest Roanoke County in the past year?

Earlier this year, we asked readers in our community news editions those questions and more in our 5th annual Best Of reader polls.

Voting was up across the board; sometimes incredibly so. We had a 69 percent increase in voting in southwest Roanoke County alone, for instance.

This morning, we reveal what readers told us in more than 50 different categories in SWoCo, So Salem and The Botetourt View.

We had a similar “Best Of” reader poll in the New River Valley; those results will go live in The Burgs on May 12.

And the winners are …

Southwest Roanoke County

Salem

Botetourt

BTW, if you subscribe to our eTimes/iPad editions, you have access to all of our community publications.

Winners will be announced on Sunday, May 5.

Just in time for opening weekend: The Ultimate Red Sox Fan contest

RedSox_StampAre you the Ultimate Red Sox Fan? If so, we have a contest just for you. All you need to do is upload your photo and get your family and friends to vote for you, and you could win some great prizes including a suite night at a Salem Red Sox game, or a paid trip to see the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

There are five rounds that you can enter throughout the season, so keep checking and playing. All the dates, details and rules can be found on our contest page.

If you’re at one of the three opening games this weekend (7:05 p.m. Friday/ 6:05 p.m. Saturday/4:05 p.m. Sunday), we’ll make it even easier to enter. The Roanoke Times Paparazzi crew will be near the front gate taking fan photos for the contest.

(And you can dunk columnist Dan Casey before Saturday’s game, too).

Find the season schedule and all of our news coverage on our new Salem Red Sox baseball page.

Is that our stomach growling? All of this baseball talk is making us crave ballpark snacks … and apparently there are some food changes to report. New this season: a gourmet hot dog stand, pizza stand, milkshakes and expanded grill items. See menu details and learn more about what’s new on the So Salem community blog.

Let’s play ball!

Congrats to our Egg Hunt Contest grand prize winner — but 2 winners still missing!

EggHunt650

Thanks to everyone who participated in our popular Egg Hunt Contest.

Above is Beverly Schulz of Roanoke, our $1,000 grand prize winner.

Patricia Colwell, G.W. Rakes and Katrina Hundley each won $100 Visa gift cards.

But we’re still missing two $100 winners!

Do you have the winning codes? They are: 013749 and 059295.

From the contest rules: Winners must claim their prize at The Roanoke Times office (201 W. Campbell Ave., Roanoke) by Monday, April 22, or another winner will be selected. To claim your prize, winners must present their sticky note with the scratched-off winning numbers.

Pick up last Sunday’s paper, increase your chances to win $1,000 Egg Hunt

egghunt_300There’s still time to pick up last Sunday’s paper and enter to win our Egg Hunt Contest. This map has locations where you can buy the March 24 paper, which includes an Easter egg sticky note with the scratch-off code.

Enter that code at roanoke.com/contests by noon on Friday, March 29.

We will randomly select six winning codes and award five $100 Visa gift cards and one $1,000 Visa gift card. The five $100 winning codes will publish in the paper on Sunday, March 31. The $1,000 winning code will publish in the paper on Monday, April 1.

Salem VA Credit Union is sponsoring the contest for the second year. Last year, we had more than 9,000 entries, so don’t miss your chance to win. (Those odds are better than a lottery scratch-off! — and your chances of winning increase with the more papers you purchase and the more codes you enter.)

Hold on to your sticky note, and read all the rules here (PDF).

Ready to win $$$? Look for your Egg Hunt Contest sticky note in Sunday’s paper

egghunt_300Didn’t get enough money back on your taxes? It’s that time of year, and it’s also time for some egg hunting. For the third year in a row, we will give away $1,500 in Visa gift cards with the Egg Hunt Contest.

How does it work?

1. On Sunday, March 24, hunt for a sticky note somewhere in your paper. It will have a scratch-off area which will reveal a code.

2. Enter that code at roanoke.com/contests by noon on Friday, March 29.

3. We will randomly select six winning codes and award five $100 Visa gift cards and one $1,000 Visa gift card. The five $100 winning codes will publish in the paper on Sunday, March 31. The $1,000 winning code will publish in the paper on Monday, April 1.
