Who says old-fashioned thank-you notes are dead?
Travis Williams, our community journalist covering Christiansburg for The Burgs, was showered with 100-plus thank-you cards from students at Auburn Middle School.
Why the love?
On Nov. 7 I spoke to all the 8th graders there about journalism and how to conduct a good interview. They have a big project coming up where they have to interview older people and write biographies on them. So they were thanking me for that.
They also asked me if I could interview anyone in the world, who it would be, and of course it was Bill Murray — obviously because he’s awesome. That point seemed to really sink in with them, so mission accomplished.
… I think they also really enjoyed that I parked in the bus zone and was ordered to go outside and move my car about 10 minutes into my talk. No one is above the rules.
