Summer Reading Camp
I’ve been lucky enough to get to spend some time over the last few weeks going to different summer camps with The Roanoke Times education reporter, Courtney Cutright, and it’s been a blast.
It’s also been kind of a let down, but just because I don’t think they had this many awesome camps when I was younger! I feel like I missed out. But it’s okay, because I have an awesome job that lets me experience these awesome camps as an adult.
The last camp we went to was a remedial summer reading camp designed to help rising first, second and third-graders with their reading skills.
You might think that doesn’t sound like fun. But Kadin Brandi-Dodd, a rising first-grader at Crystal Spring Elementary, said that he was really having a lot of fun at the camp, even though he doesn’t like reading.
“It’s just really difficult to me,” said Brandi-Dodd about reading. “I’m like six, and I don’t even know how to read yet. I do know a lot of words.”
Here are a few of my favorite photos from the camp.
