The Virginian

Roanoke City Police Officer J. Pope waves to Virginia Heights Elementary students as they walk on to the next automobile during Vehicle Day at Virginia Heights Tuesday. Detective J.W. Hicks stands watch on top of The Virginian, the Tactical Response Team truck. Both Pope and Hicks said they volunteered to be a part of Vehicle Day. "It's for the kids getting to have a good experience with the police," Pope said.

Detective J.W. Hicks stands watch on top of The Virginian during Vehicle Day. Students in all 21 classes at the school got a close look at 10 vehicles parked in and near the bus loop and learned about different careers during career week.

Students explore the ins and outs of The Virginian during Vehicle Day. This was the first time that the Roanoke City Police Department has opened the truck to the community.
