I traveled to Forest last week to photograph a tribute celebrating the 52 years Lacey Putney spent in the House of Delegates. Gov. Bob McDonnell attended the event and I took this photo as he stepped out of the town car and approached the building.
I haven’t spent a lot of time shooting politics, but the times I have, it seems to have been mostly planned media events where access is restricted to photographing politicians either in a parade or a podium. The evening was full of speeches, since it was a tribute and a dinner, but it was nice to get a few minutes of something else.
This photo isn’t likely to run with the story in print, since the story is about Putney, so I wanted to share it on our blog. I like the feel of it because it’s an in-between moment.
