Doug,
I am afraid I could sadly become Mayor of Brownsville..I have followed your posts with interest over the past several weeks. It helped to think I wasn't alone with my brown crunchy lawn, but now I'm beginning to wonder. I'm glad you got some rain, I'll have to wait and hope.

We got 1.35 inches from two waves of heavy rain about 3pm on Saturday. And Goose Creek near its source may make it through the year after all without going completely dry like it did in 2002. The recent and coming rains, alas, are too late for a parched end to a not-so-stellar gardening year. But then, there's next year to try again.

Interesting to see that Charleston, WV has been under a heat advisory for heat indexes close to 100 while places like Richmond are in 80's. Very odd.

Wow, this storm next week is starting to concern me. If we get the flow off the Gulf as well as the E/NE winds then we're in for a ton of rain.

I think you're right Kevin. After this weekend 90 degree weather is probably gone for this year.

I'm not a huge fan of storms to start with, but that storm this afternoon in Roanoke was one of the worst electrical ones I've encountered. I made it out of the city without getting wet but saw enough cloud to ground lightning to last me till next year...

No rain today here on my side of FC, but we got around 1/2" yesterday.

Reports of un confirmed tornado in Galax. Not sure of accuracy, have been out of town and not up to date, strictly word of mouth. Heavy damage though with several road closures. Can someone confirm?

Elizabeth, is your lawn completely brown? If so, I will gladly assign the post of Mayor of Brownsville to you! LOL Kevin, if the rains we get are anything close to those computer image totals, I will be a happy man. And my back yard Brownsville will be no more, sort of like the mysterious Scottish village "Brigadoon." I may get a round or two of golf wiped out, and have to deliver mail on 24017's biggest walking route in the rain on Wednesday, but frankly, my dear, I won't care. It will be great to have things turn green again .... if it happens. One GINORMOUS word of caution, folks. Historically these slow-moving tropical storms such as Lee are the ones most likely to make an abrupt turn and go some place where NONE of the models are forecasting them. Hopefully the degree of certainty about where Lee is going will rise, not fall. I heard on TWC television that the entire western half of Lee (just about) was moisture-starved because of -- you guessed it -- the dry air from Texas. They expect that half of the circulation to fill in quite a bit over the next 24 hours, but even so, from their maps only the coastal sections of Texas will get any rain from Lee, and that is iffy. When I consider what that part (TEXAS, most of OKLA, etc.) of the country has been going through, it makes me realize how minor my dryness has been.

The south/southwest movement of storms today is more related to mid level winds out of the north circulating around high pressure to our west.
