We got a surprise 0.43" overnight. After watching storm after storm after storm pop up and slip by the house by a couple miles each time, I guess nature decided to throw us a bone. We didn't get the severe gully washers that really cleaned out the roadside ditches along 460 & 114 near C'burg, but we at least got something. It was kind of weird to see those storms firing up to severe levels on the Radar last night several hours after sunset.

Hokieburg, I bet you got your wish. I have been watching the radar with one eye, and looking north with the other. Purdy rough storm. Near the mall we had a cloud burst right over our head about 5 pm, this got the South tail of this one about 11 PM . Surely over an inch total. Nice cool breeze . . .

watching a t-storm headed over Blacksburg right now and hoping it will drop some rain on us. NWS just issued a severe t-storm warning for northern Montgomery co. (along with parts of Giles and Craig). Don't want wind but would love some rain. We have the windows open listening to the thunder off in the distance along with a rousing chorus of katydids. Beautiful night!

@Newt comment 36: I remember the same thing when we'd go hiking in Grayson Highlands back in either the late 80s or early 90s jets would fly over us so low you could easily see in the cockpit. You felt like you could reach up and touch the planes as they went by.

I was in Christiansburg today between 4 pm and 5 pm and the skies just opened up and it poured and poured. But then as I drove home and got closer to the Doppler it became drier and drier. Only a couple more hours for a chance to get some more rain for this month. Watching the storms coming out of WVA but not holding my breath that we will get any.

Iridium flares - yep, have seen a few of those out here too.

migration...southern remnant is dying somewhat
and drifting over far East Tenn and Wstrn Carolina.
Huge dry slot gap developing west of u guys. in ROA Vly.

Haven't followed radar frame by frame today but that stuff in WVa hasn't moved much in hours. Likely why there are flash flood warnings. Looks like a heavy cell moving into western/southern parts of Roanoke Valley.
