wd, two things. If you are willing to tell us, what date did you choose for your first snow date? My wife just entered the contest and also chose a date during the last week of NOV, which I think I remember you commenting that you had chosen. If you want to wait until after tomorrow midnight (when the window for entries closes), no problem.
And with Kevin's permission, yes, I guess Sam Oakey and I and the other few folks here who have seen the "good side" of The Force (THAT WAS A JOKE, PEOPLE!! ) are still in "business." We just had a rather good winter, didn't we?
By the way, wd, now that you don't plow it anymore, do you count yourself as a snow lover, snow liker, or (and I bet this describes you best...) guy who simply accepts what happens?

Kevin, I agree fully with the 2nd paragraph of your 3:48 PM comment. It seems that if November is an extreme in temp, odds go way up that most of winter will be the opposite. I remember being stunned that after a toasty November (+4.7 I think for ROA) and tame first 12 days or so of December in 2009, all Frozen H-LL broke loose that winter. We snow haters were BURIED, BOTH literally and figuratively. LOL LOL

Scott Saunders, WELCOME BACK!! I like the term "Griggsy" but spelled with the double g combo. Tell us, SS, when is this cold streak supposed to start? I am very surprised to hear that, what with the oscillations the way they are predicted to be over the next 10-14 days.

Shanon, I know that you work there (at Forest Park School), but I refrained from mentioning your name in my comment yesterday in case you did not want that "publicized" here.
Leave it to Roanoke city to not have a back-up person ready in case someone did call in sick. Both on the news and from 2-3 of my fellow postal employees, I learned that the lines at Ruffner Middle School (near Burlington Coat Factory store and Fleming High School) were up to 3+ hours yesterday!!! That is ridiculous. This is 2012, not 1912. I could understand it we had the tremendous infrastructure problems that coastal New York state and New Jersey had, but we don't.

Rick: You are correct, I screwed it up on the new column. Got myself confused by changing it from April 15 which is what I've done in past.

I will email everyone who has sent me new contest entries today and tell them it is March 31 and ask if they want to change their entry. Easier to do that than to change all the previous entries to March 15.

In the paper today, you said Nov 15 to March 15.
