Good thing Rick of Wytheville was not reading my earlier post. This time my long-term memory failed me. The Full Wolf Moon is the January full moon. Oops. December’s is the Cold Moon. TRIVIA: Starting with December, five straight months have full moon nicknames of four letters: Cold, Wolf, Snow, Worm, and Pink.

DC, 3 in the bed and one on standby usually does the job. Our power was out back in the summer for 4 days. When it came back on, my standard of living went down. It jest don’t bother me. Set up a 2 burner gas stove and never missed a beat.

And also there can be and this time was a big diff between being at Doppler Carol’s homestead and being below 2000 feet here in the RNK valley. Sorry that your county got so much ice, DC.

By the way, criticizers of WDBJ7, their forecast on Christmas night showed that the eastern end of Floyd County was the only spot within 40 miles of downtown ROA that was forecasted to get more than 2/10ths of an inch of ice. I say they hit that ball out of the park.

Congratulations on your hefty snow total in Glenmont, NY, Todd. Most of the time in the inland parts of NY State and the vast majority of New England, temperature is not the issue with winter precip, just the amount of moisture. The huge difference between being up there and being in the Roanoke valley.

Still no power. Running generator for a few hours tonight. Heated up leftover chili and vegetable beef soup on the woodstove for supper. I don’t think it got above 29 here today and we barely saw the sun. No melting of the ice has happened. Full moon- don’t see it – too cloudy.

Went into town of Floyd for more gas for generator at lunch time today. Boy our road is a disaster. So many branches and parts of trees down across road. Don’t drive our road if you are worried about scratching the side of your vehicle.

APCO did give us an automated call around supper time wanting to know if we had power. Of course, we said no.

wdbrand – all 4 dogs are in for the night.

I will check in tomorrow for updates to weather. Will need to bring in more wood for the next few days.

I wonder if this storm will be one of those that IMHO brings up the “snowboard” discussion/controversy. Such as: No accumulation on roads and walkways at all below 1500 feet here in the Roanoke valley, 1.5 inches of wet snow that will melt quickly on lawns and other colder surfaces, and the snowboard measurement is 3 or 4 inches.

Now that I have looked through some more comments, I see that JJF was not wrong ….. DT IS predicting 4+ inches for lots of locations in SW Virginia, including the north sides of Roanoke County and Salem. ……. Thanks Austin for your 3:47 comment with the link. ……. 32* here and a gorgeous full moon over downtown Roanoke from my vantage point. Full Wolf moon. I didn’t look up whether the actual full moon date was yesterday, is today, or will be tomorrow.
