The Community of Whitetop I would say like no other in Virginia. A high elevation actual community. (School, post office, grocery store etc.) What makes it unique though in my mind is the physical geography. While the surrounding mountains of Virginia are great, you truly get the feel when you are up there that you are HIGH up. Sandwhiched between the two highest peaks is kinda a surreal feel. Lot's of waterfalls and just a great great place. Not many places that I know of even on the East Coast can match that kind of elevation for a community. Pretty cool.

Drifting has caused for some slick roads. Came back from Lynchburg ( drove from Gatlinburg to Lynchburg then back to bburg) up through Catawba and Mt. Tabor Road. Lot's of snow still on roads where drifting has occured. Be very careful, they sneak up on you.

Also - - lots of deer! Counted at least 30 on my way home. There is a reason, they have to change their feeding patterns since snow is on the ground. Stay warm!

Doug G, I do live ithe city. I have opposite commute down to Alexandria everyday. 3 years ago was a little much. I have street parking and live on a narrow street. Cars stayed buried for days. Like Kevin said earlier, we are probably still paying the tab for that winter. I like this blog because of all the weather informed people who routinely visit. I've learned quite a bit over the years. I am originally from the NRV and lived a while in Roanoke, SWCO at the base of Bent Mountain, so it's great to keep up with my old stomping grunds. The day I retire from Govt service I plan to return to that part of the world. Well as I look out the window it's snowing kinda hard, YET AGAIN!!! Ole Mother Nature... She is a tease!!!

27 here and blowing! Snow has drifted across the road all down Prices Fork Road in Hokieburg which catches all the wind coming off of Brush Mountain, especially with Clipper systems. The town did not put up the snow fence this year which helps prevent the drifting.

You are very welcome, I'm in. I am ecstatic that you liked my comment. Your comment and rant were among the very best I have seen here. And if you actually live in the city itself, I would be very wary of hoping for a truly big bomb like you got 3 years ago. Mick Jagger could add a new lyric to his famous song: " .... you might find .... you get what you need ..... and then too much!!"

Sammy my Vice Chairman, I too am a "7" fan, but they had the BOOOOORRRRRRRIIIINNNNGGG pregame show on at 6 PM and I wanted to watch news and weather. If it was just for weather, I would pick 13 over 10, but I wanted to watch 10 in case they had continuing coverage of an ongoing news story locally. Besides, Alyssa is much more pleasing eye candy than the "7" guys, much as I admire them.
Nickster, I was just havin' some fun with the stuff about Alyssa, although what I posted here was close to verbatim about what she said. I was stunned. I would be ticked off too ..... were I a snow lover. Nick, I was a snow lover myself once upon a time. When I was in the first few grades of grade school. Then I got big enough to shovel, and suddenly it was not so much fun, even when I got a cherished snow day. Back in Yankee land they called 3 or 4 inches a dusting.
Hey, Snow Lover, thanks for telling the CBOLC what a 5# poke was. Leave it to wd to taunt me instead of simply answering my question. He was just havin' some fun, too.

Doug G, thanks for the laugh. That's all I can do at this point. Snowed on and off all day today (Sunday), but no accumulation. They're calling for a quarter of an inch Monday and Tuesday nights which will make 7 snows totaling maybe 2"!!!! COME ON!!! I'm not even a big snow lover though I like a couple bigguns to make the cold worth while. Unlike Jared of Greene County I've maintained a sunny disposition the last 3 years but even I'm getting to the end of my rope. We go from 60"+ to 7", 2", and 2" in successive winters. What are the odds!?!? I've seen Lows come up the coast looking pretty only to see them stay 50 miles too far east. I've seen big time Lows driving up from the Gulf, looking pretty, only to see them turn left and stay west, dumping snow on the deep south!! The mountains to the west deflect anything that remotely thinks about coming from that direction!!! And now it snows every day for a week, everyday, and we get an inch, which, by the way has melted. How is this all possible?? Maybe this is why we are all so doggone intrigued by the weather. Just bring on spring, put me and Jared out of our misery. Sorry for the rant! It's been welling up for a while I think. Maybe therapy I in order...
