The Hokie Storm Chasers arrived in Lawton, Okla., with our vehicles and persons fully intact. Early Friday, with an obvious extremely ballistic severe weather setup lying right across central Oklahoma, we had basically 2 choices: Commit NORTH of Oklahoma City or SOUTH of Oklahoma City. Chasing IN Oklahoma City was NEVER AN OPTION. Chasing metro areas never is an option for us. And Friday’s mayhem proved why that’s wise advice. We went after a lone storm way to the south that, surprisingly, fizzled. Then we pulled just far enough north to see the massive storm (back end of storm in this photo) from more than 30 miles south of OKC, and even there, traffic was thick with folks bypassing/evacuating the metro area.
I’ll have more to write about this in time. For now, time to get some rest.
