UPDATE 9AM, 8/23: The front is on its way, and showers and storms are lining up ahead of it, and will move through much of the region later this morning into the afternoon. Some locally heavy rain is possible. The weekend is still looking drier and somewhat cooler behind the front. END UPDATE
Thursday and Friday look a lot like Wednesday — warm and sticky with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Kinda like most of the summer. Rain will be locally heavy in spots. The early-week idea of a drier dome of hot air for a few days didn’t really pan out.
What does look promising is the arrival of a rather vigorous cold front for the weekend. The front, like the one last week, appears to have the necessary high-pressure push to clear the area by a substantial margin, shoving aside the humid air for a period of somewhat cooler and much drier air. As it stands now, the weekend is looking like amazingly nice weather for outdoor activities in late August, with highs in the 70s to low 80s and lows in the 50s to low 60s. A gradual warmup and rebuilding humidity is expected into next week.
