Washed-up tropical system

radar0728.gif

Note the little swirl of rain over central Tennessee in this 4:30 p.m. radar shot. This system could have become a tropical storm or maybe even a hurricane if it could have sat over the Gulf of Mexico a few more days. Instead, it came inland, and has dumped a lot of rain in some places that were very dry. Arkansas got 3-7 inches of rain out of it on Thursday. This tropical-origin low pressure area has become more diffuse, but it is spreading some rain and thunderstorms into far western Virginia this evening. We might get some moisture from this tonight and Saturday, before the heat wave tries to build in next week. It might leave behind enough moisture to quell the heat some, with more afternoon showers, but also more uncomfortable humidity.
