Storm over Roanoke -- photo

roastorm0713small.jpg

My thanks to Ryan Brown from our circulation department for this photo of the approaching thunderstorm, taken atop the Roanoke Times building in the roof garden, about 3:45 this afternoon. I was up there, too, shooting photos by film until the rush of wind and rain swept in. This storm shows a nice multi-layered shelf cloud as winds at different speeds aloft push parts of the storm forward on the outflow faster than others. It was a beautiful storm, and so far, there have been no reports of injuries or major damage, though I wouldn't be surprised to see a few wind damage reports around.
