The Wild Life, with Mark Taylor

A good rifle opener for this Highland County deer camp

Chuck Neely (right) from Monterey and Nick Kershner from Palmyra had a good day on the general firearms opener in Highland County.

Kershner, here with son Jack, had an 15-inch-wide eight-pointer, while Neely’s heavy-antlered buck was a nine-pointer with a 17-inch spread. Both were trolling does.

I encourage hunters to avoid “back of the tailgate” hero shots when possible. But I really like this shot because of the great emotion in the faces, and the story it tells.
