Deer Stand Dispatch: Back on the stand

This morning’s post is brought to you by Gore-Tex and whatever LL Bean used in these pants I got for $30the at their outlet store.

The woods are foggy and quiet except for the pitter patter of light rain. I am on a ridge near where I missed the eight-pointer last week. There is a deer. Bye for now.

Wish I could tell you that the deer was my chance for redemption. It was a spike. A few minutes later I saw two does, which busted me. Then another spike.

I have been getting busted more than I can remember this year. Not by young bucks, but by mature does. As soon as they show up they look at the stand, see me, and figure out something is not right.

Admittedly, I am probably moving too much trying to get the glasses on these things. Whereas with young bucks I am not moving as much.

I’m back at the cabin for a break. Buddy James Quarles had a great breakfast waiting when I got back. Now he and friends Bobby Hogan and Tony Kelly are out working on a utility vehicle. I told them I plan to go out to help about the time they have it done.

Mark, hope you have a great time, shoot one for me. between work & illness I haven’t set foot in the woods this season. On getting busted, it sounds like they have patterned you at that location. May want to give that stand a break for a while and set up a new one nearby if possible. Just a thought Good luck and be safe!
