Lukas Strong gets his season off to a great start

Jay Strong sent in these shots of his nephew, Lukas Strong, 16. This is one proud uncle!

“On opening day he shot his first spring gobbler ever, shooting one of five gobblers that came in. I don’t know if there was a bigger one in the group but this bird was 22 lbs 14oz, had a 10” beard and 1” spurs. That would have been a great season for any of us, me included, but last Saturday he goes out again, same spot and this time it’s nine birds that come in — seven long beards and two jakes.

He pulls the trigger on the first bird that comes close and it’s an 18lbs 12oz, 9.5” beard and 1” spurs.

Lukas hunts with a Thompson Center Encore with a 20 gauge turkey barrel and it is dropping birds in their tracks. I have included a picture of each and I think that he’s hooked. And by the way I took a bird last week too but I’m having the best season of my life through him.”

The Strongs live in Rockbridge County, where they hunt public and private land. Not only is Lukas doing great with the hunting, but this kid knows how to pose for a hero shot! Congrats to both Lukas and his uncle for their great season so far!
