Luca Ripepi pulls in a giant bluegill from a small pond

Blacksburg’s Nino Ripepi and his son, Luca, recently rode their bikes to a neighborhood pond for a little fishing.

You’ve got to love a kid who is so eager to fish that he doesn’t even bother taking off his bike helmet.

And you’ve got to love it when that kid pulls in a giant bluegill like this one.

Really great pic. Even with Luca’s very small hand as a reference, you can still tell that fish is a monster! Thanks for posting, and Nino, Thanks for sharing it!

Good golly Mrs. Molly!! If your gonna catch whoppers like that then it makes sense to wear a helmet! That thing could flog the little guy. Nice catch Luca.

Luca caught a nice fish, but I’d wager that fish just hooked a future angler. Nice job, Luca!

That is my kind of pic! Great job young man! Hokies, even the toddlers, can fish.

Great Job Luca. Using an ultra-light and 2 lbs test can be a lot of fun. I surely miss those days. Take a Kid fishing!

Thanks Mark for posting the photo and thanks for all of the great comments. Luca and some of his friends have caught about a half dozen citations out of this pond, but this was definitely the biggest. Wish I had brought a scale to see how big it actually was. I think it was around 1.75 pounds if I was guessing. I thought it was a bass the way it was yanking and fighting.

@Nino – Well, looks like you can weigh Luca, then divide that weight by 2, then that would be the weight of the fish. lol
