Cole Thompson with his youth day whitetail

Garnett Thompson sent in this shot of his son, Cole, with Cole’s youth day deer. They live in Roanoke County and Cole is an eighth-grader at Northside Middle School.

Here’s Garnett’s story:

“Cole and I were in our 2 man, enclosed tree stand on private property in Blue Ridge.  About 0715 hrs, this doe came out on the edge of an open field.  Cole made a beautiful 80 yard shot with his trusty Savage Axis 243. Double lunged her!  She ran maybe 20 yards and piled up.  Cole has been hunting  with me since he was 10.  He has shot a doe every year, but has yet to see a buck (alive) in the woods!  I hope that changes this year, especially since he already has his doe under his belt!!”

I also hope Cole’s great season continues and he can finally get that elusive buck later this fall!
