Here is the story of Ed Muse’s 19-pointer

Today’s Outdoors page in The Roanoke Times featured the full story behind the monster buck Ed Muse killed on the bow opener in Amherst County.

Last night after deadline I got an email from Ed saying that Andy Arrington (from Bedford County’s Arrington Orchards, where Muse took the buck’s cooler) had taken time to do a more accurate Boone and Crockett rough score than had been done previously. Muse said Arrington reported a rough B&C green score of about 181, and said the rack had 19 scoreable points of at least an inch long.

Arrington also taped the buck’s rack using the Virginia system, and the score was in the 220 range.

I personally think too many hunters pay too much attention to antler scores, to the point where some lose sight of the true meaning of what a trophy is.

No matter what the Muse buck eventually scores, there is no question it’s an amazing trophy.

Bottom line, this was an awesome buck! I really enjoyed the article in the paper this morning that told about the hunt. Congratulations Ed and Good Luck hunting with your kids this season!

Looking at that buck who care about numbers!!!! He is an absolute world-class, once-in-a-lifetime, gargantuan monster of a whitetail!!!!!

I just wish ED could’ve waited a little later in the season and let the rest of us maybe have a little “hero-shot glory”! From here on out any deer we see on the blog will probably not come close to matching that one!

I agree with you Ralph.Ed has set a benchmark for all of us to shoot for.But every deer is a trophy, and we should be thankful for every kill.Congrats Ed.
