Jason Nicholson drops an elusive big buck

No surprise to see Jason Nicholson show up here. Here’s his story:

“I’ve been traveling a lot with my job and coaching my 6-year-old’s flag football team so I haven’t had much time to get in the stand this October. I did have a couple hours after my sons football game last Saturday and boy it was a fantastic evening hunt!

I went to a stand I call 3 trails which is where 3 trails meet from a bedding area headed to our 2 acre food plot in a big 40 acre field. I saw 16 deer in all, 8 does and 8 bucks.

I passed on a couple good 2 ½-year-old bucks then a young six-pointer came running off the ridge bullying all the other bucks away. I thought my hunt was over but then I saw a buck that looked familiar from my trail camera. It was a beautiful 2 ½-year-old 9 pointer probably in the mid 120’s which he was very tempting to shoot. But I forced myself to pass.

Then came his ole running buddy from the summer, a 4 ½-year-old solid 8-pointer with a little G-4 on his right side which technically he can be called a 9.

The north wind we had that evening was perfect for this stand. None of the deer had a clue I was there. When the buck was at 25 yards I drew back my PSE NOVA and stuck a 100 grain Thunderhead right behind his shoulder.

I’ve had pictures of this buck over the last 3 years and there are 5 of us that hunt this property and nobody has ever laid eyes on him until I saw him on this evening hunt! The buck weighed in after I field dressed him at 175 pounds which would put him over 200 pounds on the hoof!”

Nice going Jason. Getting it done as usual. Was the 2.5 yr. old 9-pointer the other buck in the picture? If so, next year will be special.

Great buck Jason! It would be neat put a blown up picture from the trail cam on the wall next to the mount. Congratulations!

Jim — Jason had several other trailcam shots of the buck, but I thought this one was the best at confirming it was for sure the same deer.

Nice Buck, and great review of the hunt. I am a huge trail camera fan and know the satisfaction of successfully harvesting a buck with history. Great Job!

Very nice buck! It seems like you have several nice deer each year . Nothing like a bow kill.
