The writer is actually a regular correspondent, who went on to assure me he was just kidding. Sort of.
Unlike my friend Christian Berg at Petersen’s Bowhunting, whose blog is Stuck in the Rut, I’m a realist here!
That said, the timing is about right to get to those reports. We’ve got about a month of exciting rut hunting and it’s about to get rolling. In fact, just the other day I got this hero shot from a guy (who asked I keep his name to myself) who wrote: “I was wondering if you could ask on your blog if others are seeing rut or pre-rut signs. I have seen 2 different bucks on 2 different days chasing does. One on Saturday was grunting the whole time.
I have not been out for a while as I just got back from four days at the coast. This week doesn’t look promising as I’m swamped at the office and with non-hunting-related assignments. With temps in the 80s in the afternoon it’s not like I feel like I am missing anything.
Forecasters are predicting a nice cool down next week, which could be great for hunting as the chasing phase tends to just get rolling the last few days of October.
So let’s hear those reports and, from those of you who like to gamble, predictions on how the rut will pan out this year.
