Sarah Shelton tags her first deer on youth day

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Bob Shelton sent me this awesome shot of his daughter with her youth day deer. Here is his story:

“This past Saturday, I was blessed to watch my daughter Sarah’s (12) first deer kill.  We’re a military family, stationed in Goldsboro, NC at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.  We recently moved back to the east coast and it’s been a wonderful treat to be closer to home (Roanoke) and the family land in Carroll County.

Friday was spent sighting in the new Remington 770 Youth .243 and talking about the fundamentals.  After a night of heavy rain, we sat the stand all morning Saturday with very little to see.  Departing the woods, we were greeted by Nonni and Granddad and had a wonderful afternoon visit.  Discouraged by another afternoon shower, we finally caught a break in the weather and quickly made for a ground blind near a new game camera with some promising traffic.

After checking the wind and picking a spot, Sarah got settled in at the base of an old pine tree and I cleared a couple of shooting lanes.  We hadn’t been in the blind for more than 15 minutes when I caught movement coming up the ridge and out stepped a nice doe.  It was a proud moment to watch Sarah harness her excitement and make a perfect shot on her first deer.

Thanks for letting me share! ”

And thanks for sharing, Bob! Congrats to both of you!
