Brandon Martin is patient, and it pays off

Brandon Martin was walking to his stand Tuesday afternoon when he saw a doe.

He was hunting in Roanoke County, where hunters need to kill as many does as possible to help control the deer population. But unlike most other counties with deer populations issues — and Earn-a-Buck regs — Roanoke County is still in the one-deer-per-day zone.  And it’s hard to blame a guy for wanting to focus on bucks in early November.

Martin also let a flock of turkeys pass before this eight-pointer showed up. Great to see his patience rewarded.

Martin’s friend Andrew East sent this shot in. East included this report of his own hunting:

“I personally just got back from a hunt on national forest land in Botetourt. Appears rutting activity is a little behind schedule there. Saw 8 does and no bucks. Does were still with fawns and there was little buck sign. The area I was in is usually covered in sign.”
