Deer camp dispatch: I finally saw a deer!

My winless streak here finally ended this morning. I saw a deer.

Actually, I saw six.

Five were does and one was a small seven-pointer that was grunting and chasing a doe (that wasn’t interested).

It was again a mixed bag for the five of us hunting this morning. A couple of us saw deer, a couple of us didn’t.

We’re in for a short break and will be back at it this evening.

I had a pretty good morning myself….. finally saw some “rut action”! A doe came trotting by at around 8:00 AM….. over the next two hours three different bucks came through trailing the doe! Unfortunately none were a buck I was looking to shoot today but I still took them home on my video camera!

I got my son Chris out of school 2 hours early today for an evening hunt with him. It was funny…. I picked himn up and I asked what he put on his early dismissal sign out….. he said “hunting of course”. I was going to put down something like “an appointment”….. but I guess I should be happy he was honest! We din’t see anything in the evening….. guess that’s what we get for playing hookie!
