Dwayne Hale tags out west with two great bucks
What a season for Dwayne Hale! Here’s his report on these two shots, the top one of which is a muzzleloader kill and the bottom one of which is a bow kill:
“The first pic is of a 8 pt that I harvested on the evening of opening day of muzzleloader. I heard some noise coming a patch of mountain laurel beside and dismissed it as squirrels. After a few minutes of listening I heard a grunt come from the laurel and then I realized that the noise was a buck chasing a doe.
After I returned a few grunts this guy went nuts thrashing trees and scared the doe out into a opening where he followed and gave me a nice 40-yard shot. He is 19 inches wide and field dressed at 175 pounds. I would estimate he is around 5-6 years old.
The second buck is a nine-point that I harvested on the last Saturday of bow. I had only seen 7-8 deer all bow season and was very discouraged when this guy ran in from below me and bedded down at 30 yards. After debating whether or not to take the shot with him bedded I realized I actually had a pretty good angle ! The buck only went about 30 yard . This is by far my best bow kill yet!
I have been blessed enough to fill my two buck tags for the western region so now it is time to focus on getting my daughter out and see if we can get her first deer of the season! Good luck to everyone… Be safe!”
Congrats on two great bucks, Dwayne, and good luck to you and your daughter the rest of the season.
