Junior Clifton’s eight-pointer as big as it looks

Junior Clifton of Roanoke killed this eight-pointer while hunting on national forest land in Craig County.

You know how some hunters push their deer out to make them look big? Junior isn’t doing that here, nor is his 10-year-old granddaughter, Ariana. This is a stud. It’s 23 inches wide outside, 21 inches inside and the G2s are 11 inches long. Love the mass and the character, too.

Junior’s daughter, Heather, who sent me the shot, said the rack green scores 182 under the Virginia system. I believe it. They don’t get much bigger.

Congrats Junior!!! Aren’t you glad Timmy’s gun didn’t go off. Great Buck. I know where you hunt and you earned that deer.

my husband hunted on National Forest and didn’t see much of anything. All at a distance. Several others I know had the same experience. Glad to see someone rewarded for all the hard work involved in hunting and preparing. Nice! Congratulations!

Junior earned this buck. Each year he hunts every single day for 4 weeks out of a National Forest camp. Some years the hunting can be decent, but some years not so much. He still goes out there day after day. This area is not noted for real big bucks. In fact, this is probably the biggest buck to ever come from this area. I salute all the hunters that go deep in National Forest to hunt and see very few deer, but stay dedicated to this strategy. Junior proved it can work and I congratulate him on his awesome buck!

Maybe Junior can chime in and give us more details. I would love to hear how fun the 2-mile haul out was!
