Steve Crawford sent in this shot of sons Daijon Bannister and Conner Crawford with Daijon’s first turkey. He labeled the email, “A picture of three turkeys.” You gotta love a dad who gives his kids grief! Here’s the story:
“This was supposed to be a squirrel hunt. Saturday, December 8th was unseasonably warm. As we headed up the mountain before day break we could hear turkeys everywhere up and down the Catawba Valley. Gobbles could be heard in EVERY direction, near and far.
I pulled out my mouth call and made a few yelps and within minutes this gobbler was dead in his tracks. I’ve never been much of a turkey hunter, only killing a few in the fall when the opportunity arises. But I think this spring I can think of a few boys that are going to spend some time in the woods!”
Those fall/winter mornings when you get into turkeys on the roost can be a real blast! Congrats on your great gobbler, Daijon!
