My shed finds so far this year

shed findsI’ve gotten out a few times in the past week to look for sheds. I’ve had some good luck. My best trip was one with my daughter, Maddy. I found the two big ones here on that  walk. Then there was today. I walked my butt off and found one forkie.

Here’s the haul so far: One five; one four; one three and two twos. I’m pretty sure the two at the top left are a matching set. Maddy found the right one and I found the left one about 200 yards away.

But here’s the thing. These are all year-old sheds. I haven’t found a fresh one yet.

Am I still early? Or is this just weird luck that I’m finding old sheds and not new ones?

I was shocked to see a really nice buck on Roanoke Mountain (from the Parkway) with both antlers still intact about a week ago. Maybe they’re just hanging on a little tighter this year.

Mark, it is obvious that your hunting buddies went out and planted Sheds for you kinda like you do with Easter Eggs for your little one(s) lol. It isn’t uncommon to find a year old shed, but that is alot of antler for one walk…. i would bet a friend is in on your success.

You are too funny, Ridge Runner! I agree. On that walk with Maddy we covered maybe a mile and found four pieces of bone! I mean, I’ve done a lot of walking in the woods and never come close to that. Maybe it was because I offered her $10 per shed, and looked extra hard so I didn’t have to pay her too much!

As for the sneaky friends, that’s a pretty interesting theory. One of the big ones was in ridiculously plain sight. However, the other three were partially obscured. The big 5 I almost stepped or or probably would have never found it.

Of course, it all works out. I walked probably 2 miles yesterday morning and another 2 this morning and my take was that one little forkie yesterday morning. And I was in places with so much deer sign it was making me more eager than usual for October to get here!

While rabbit hunting this past saturday a hunting buddy and my dad found a really nice shooter four point shed in a local christmas tree field/farm about 100 yards off the main road. It was a last year drop.

Hi Mark, a friend of mine said he just found a pair of fresh sheds still wet at the base, I haven’t been able to find any either, so I think they are just dropping them.
