You guys know I love good beer.
Roanoke’s Pub Run, which I wrote about in a story that ran in yesterday’s Roanoke Times, is a match made in heaven.
Fleet Feet Sports started the runs last year, and clearly I’m not the only one who likes the combo. A recent one of these drew 114 runners.
The host site alternates between Fork in the City and Wasena City Tap Room, both of which have a good selection of good draft beers. (The Tap Room has the best selection, but Fork has a decent variety.) Routes of 3 or 5 miles are offered. My buddies and I who are training for the July 28 Ironman in Lake Placid will sometimes come early so we can get an hour or so in. (Tomorrow evening we’re doing two hours. Ugh.)
Not all of the runners stick around the pub part, but enough do to give a nice business boost to the host restaurants. Don’t get the wrong idea about the drinking, either. Runners being sort of health-conscious, it’s not like they’re sticking around to the wee hours getting hammered. At least I don’t think so.
I know this is a hook and bullet-heavy blog, but I’m throwing this out there because I know many of you understand how being in good shape pays off with both fishing and hunting. I’d love to see a few of you out there on these runs.
